Newsletter 5 July 2007 Season 2007-2008 WELCOME TO THE 5th Wasps’ newsletter. We enter the new season with good news on many fronts · We are now on the verge of applying for FA Charter Standard status. The main benefit for you as parents and players is that this is an official endorsement by the FA that the Club is well run. It means that all our coaches will be qualified by the FA and all coaches and Club officers will have undergone an Extended Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. So, the children get good coaching to develop their football skills in an environment that is as safe as we can make it. It also means that as a Club we can apply for funding. Our main aim in doing so would be to buy our own grounds, but that is a little way off yet! · At the time of writing, all existing coaches have undergone an extended CRB check. All new coaches and Club officials have already submitted the necessary paperwork for theirs and we expect to have them back in time for the start of the season · All existing coaches now have a relevant FA football coaching qualification. All team coaches will be qualified by the end of September. As a Club, we will have thirteen qualified coaches for eleven teams · We now have two teams representing the Club at U9s, U10s and U11s. We have one team at U8s, U13s, U14s and U15s. Sadly, the U12s are not continuing due to insufficient numbers of players. At the time of writing, the future of an U17s League is uncertain. We have a team ready to challenge Devon, but so far only four other Clubs have come forth. AT THE RECENT AGM, after many two years as Secretary, and five years as a team coach, Warren Pope stood down from both roles. The whole Committee would like to thank Warren for all the many hours of effort he has put into the Club. He will still be involved with the U13s, supporting Trevor Nolan, who joins WHJFC from Brixington, where he has spent 7 years coaching teams. Trevor is qualified to Level 2 FA and will be a great asset to the Club. A huge welcome to Ray Souter-Frost, who has kindly offered to be our new Secretary. Steve McGilchrist has also stepped down as Club Welfare Officer, after many years of voluntary service for the Club, as both a team coach and for many years as Chairman and Secretary. Our extended thanks to Steve for his tremendous contribution over the years. We welcome Dave Underwood as the new Child Welfare Officer. The following people continued in the previous roles – Keith Mansfield, Chair, Richard Gosney, Vice-Chair, Angela Wakeham, Treasurer. We also appointed the following as team coaches. Brian Light will continue to run the U8s. Tony Badcott and Steve Berisford join the Club to run the two U9 teams. Nick Rush, supported by Mark Branson will run the U10s Wasps and Richard Rogers will run the U10s Hornets team, supported by Hugh Jenkins. Keith Mansfield and Chris Wardale will run the two U11s teams. Richard Gosney, Geoff Chamberlain and Lester Bowker will continue as coaches of the U14s, U15s and U17s respectively. A warm welcome and a message of good luck to all our coaches. Club Officers Chair: Keith Mansfield Vice Chair: Richard Gosney Secretary: Ray Souter-Frost Treasurer: Angela Wakeham Child Welfare: Dave Underwood FOR NEW PARENTS, your coach will give you a guide to the Club which gives you an overview of everything you need to know to get started. REGISTRATION FOR EXISTING Members could not be simpler. · Your Club membership is effectively for ‘life’ and will only expire when you no longer play for West Hill any more. If you have previously registered with the relevant League, again you do not need to repeat that. If not, you need to obtain the relevant League Registration form from your manager. Please return this to your Manager · Pay the relevant fee (see later) to the Treasurer. Please note the deadlines. Any fees not received by the deadlines will mean that your child can take no further part in training or competitive matches of any sort. Managers 2006-2007
FEES HAVE BEEN have been increased for the first time in four years. Nearly all of our expenses rise with inflation each year. Our main costs are also fixed, regardless of the number of players which is set to reduce this season. As in previous seasons, you can pay in one instalment or, for an extra £2, in two instalments. Please stick to the amounts listed (ie do not pay different instalments!)
FEES MUST BE paid by the deadlines indicated, otherwise and without exception, your child(ren) will no longer be allowed to train nor to play in matches with the Wasps. CHEQUES ARE PAYABLE to West Hill Junior Football Club and should be sent to our Treasurer, Mrs Angela Wakeham at 2 Hillside, Bendarroch Road, West Hill, Ottery St. Mary, EX11 1TT. Please do not make cheques payable to the Wasps as the bank will not accept them. Please do not pass any payment to your manager unless they have specifically indicated that they are OK for you to do so. What do the fees pay for? Each team has to pay a league entry fee and a fee to be affiliated to Devon FA. Insurance costs about £320 per annum. We hire Kings playing field and Tipton for matches. We renew equipment (balls, kit) each year, spending about £1000 - £1200 on average each year. Last year we subsidised Club jackets to the tune of £1000. U11s upwards pay more because Colin Tooze training on Tuesday nights costs over £2000 a year. U12s upwards pay that bit more as we have to pay for referees for home games. On behalf of the Committee, may I wish you and your child(ren) success and enjoyment this season. Training starts at Kings Playing Field on Saturday 18 August 2007.
